The Tsur Method

Our way was developed and refined into an organized method, the Tsur Method, by the founder of Shakla & Tariya, Atty. Michael Tsur, in the course of more than thirty years. The method is based on the insights of four winners of three Nobel Prizes – John Forbes Nash, Daniel Kahneman, Amos Tversky and Israel Aumann, who proved, in their many years of research, the unequivocal fact that the emotional controls the rational, that emotion is the main driver in interpersonal behavior and decisionmaking.

Whereas negotiation used to be defined as “attempting to persuade and influence,” the new approach according to the Tsur Method advocates that a negotiation process be led by “a learning conversation through the Art of Asking Questions.”

The Tsur Method is based on the premise that negotiation transpires in the mind of our partner to the process, and we should therefore base ourselves on curiosity, humility, abiding discomfort, empowering others, and building relationships even when processes and interactions are short term.

For many people, adopting this method is a major change that requires getting acquainted with new content and undergoing an applied stage using a method known as AKA which stands for Awareness, Knowledge and Ability (developing awareness, thinking methodologically, strengthening skills and feeling capable). The code is implemented by means of an individually customized program which includes presentations, workshops and personal support sessions.

Experience has shown and proven that organizations and individuals who have adopted the Tsur Method as a mode and an approach, and for whom it has become second nature, have gotten better results and have had more successes, while saving resources, and it has allowed them to feel complete with themselves and with their partners to their negotiations within a dynamic, demanding and changing environment, especially in view of having changed from being led to leading, and from being directed to directing, with regard not only to the process but also to its results.
