It is the method developed by the founder of Shakla & Tariya, Atty. Michael Tsur, which is based on the understanding that the emotional controls the rational, that emotions are the main drivers of interpersonal behavior and of the way decisions are made. The method’s premise is that the negotiation process happens in the mind of our partner to the negotiation, and we should therefore base ourselves on curiosity, humility, staying outside our comfort zone, empowering the other, and building a relationship.
Underlying the Tsur Method is the AKA method:
Awareness – giving organizing words for identifying and deeply understanding diverse negotiation situations on different levels of intensity.
Knowledge – a practical set of relevant methodologies for the dynamic, everchanging world by means of experiential learning and practice.
Ability – building the ability to conduct oneself in a negotiation with customized individual support, including readiness to deal with resistance, changes and setbacks in real time.
Organizations that adopted the method have reported:
- Saving resources, building a reputation, building trust, saving management hours, reduced workloads and lower levels of stress
- Significantly higher levels of self confidence and capability, including a feeling of success and satisfaction
- Daily use of tools and skills learned and assimilated
- Creating, conserving and consolidating business relationships with clients, suppliers and partners
- Courage and ability to dare, to initiate, and to deal with negotiations and difficult conversations in a way that reduces crises
- Effective management, for managers and employees, of transitional and crisis situations

What is the profession of a negotiation specialist and what is its purpose?
The purpose of personal support in a negotiation process, conflict or crisis is to strengthen the feeling of capability and to enhance the skills of the executive in conducting a negotiation and in behaving effectively in situations of conflict, transition or crisis.
Experience has proven that in making decisions under conditions of uncertainty, which is not unusual in negotiation processes or in crisis situations, there is a tendency to rely on personal talent, intuition and/or past experience, a tendency that is not always effective and is sometimes even counter-effective. In light of this, the need for professional support in these processes arose. People tended to turn to lawyers, communication consultants or strategic advisors, who had not been exposed to the study of negotiation in a professional manner, so those who actually assisted were not familiar with the various methods of the negotiation professions, and in reviewing the process and its outcome, it was found that the appropriate tools for the situation were not used, and the outcome resulted accordingly. In light of this, the need arose for the new profession of supporting the processes of thinking, negotiating and decision making, based on the practical methodologies of the negotiation professions.

We have seen people investing more resources than necessary in negotiation processes with different levels of stress, not always in the right places, and the percentage of success in leading transition processes is low.
A professional negotiation specialist who provides support for processes of thinking and decision making will know how to identify, define, prepare and analyze negotiation processes in order to assist clients in drawing conclusions in real time and planning the next steps. Likewise, in complex multiparty negotiations, the support process will assist in building a relevant team, in defining the correct role distribution and mainly in creating cooperations that are effective and efficient in the long run, which will prove to be economical regarding material resources such as time and money and even more so with regard to emotional resources such as relationships, trust and reputation.
Some executives choose to seek personal negotiation support as part of the executive development process and in order to level-up negotiation and conflict management skills. Others seek ad hoc support when undertaking a particular challenge that requires negotiating. The sooner the call, the more likely it is to favorably affect the process and its results. It should also be noted that the support process is voluntary, so if it seems to be of no advantage, it may be discontinued at any stage.

The recommended work model in the personal support process is structured from an introductory meeting with an analysis of needs, joint design of a unique process for the challenge faced by the executive, and a series of five to ten private sessions, one to two hours each, in person or on Zoom. The number of sessions depends on the nature of the negotiation and its complexity but all of the support processes have defined goals and time frames.
